“The camaraderie between classmates and upperclassmen is astounding. Even in first-year classes of more than eighty students, professors’ open door policy permits additional clarification beyond the classroom, and allows students and professors to create a personal bond.”

What is your experience with MSU Law?
Coming in as a first-year student on such a large campus was intimidating, but the closely knit community within the MSU College of Law offered a warm welcoming. The quality time spent in first-year sections also made it easier to form study groups and meet close friends.

Describe your relationship with fellow classmates and faculty.
Although classes are graded on a curve, the camaraderie between classmates and upperclassmen is astounding. Even in first-year classes of more than eighty students, professors’ open door policy permits additional clarification beyond the classroom, and allows students and professors to create a personal bond.

You have just finished your 1L year. What was your experience?
The support from TAs in lab sessions and office hours were extremely helpful for class and adjusting to the overall first-year experience. Having recently gone through the same experience, TAs offer first hand advice on managing 1L classes and requirements. OSE also provided additional guidance in course selection and suggesting much needed study breaks.

Tell us about your involvement in the Business Law Society and Spartan Law Society. How has participation in these organizations contributed to your education?
Joining these societies early during first year made it easier to meet upperclassmen and fellow first-year students with a common interest in business law. SLSS football tailgates provided the opportunity to network with alumni and local law firms. Additionally, SLSS is full of passionate Spartan fans and offers a great opportunity for a study break.

What does the MSU name mean for your education and opportunities?
As an out-of-state student, the portability of the Michigan State name was an important part of my decision to join the MSU College of Law. However, with thousands of alumni across the country and the notorious MSU name, job opportunities extend well beyond East Lansing.
