Admission Requirements & Application Process

What is the deadline to apply for admission?

Since these are online programs, we offer extended application deadlines for our online programs. Students wishing to enroll for Fall 2014 must apply by August 1 with all required documentation, and students wishing to enroll in January 2015 must apply by December 1, 2014, with all required documentation.

How long will it take to find out if I am admitted?

Once your application is complete, you should receive an admissions decision within 4 to 6 weeks at most, barring any unforeseen or exceptional circumstances. If your application is incomplete, the process will take longer, as we do not review files until we have all of the required documents from you. Once you have submitted initial application documents to us, we will notify you of any items that are missing so that you can complete your file and receive a decision.

How long will it take to complete the degree?

The online programs at MSU Law are intended to meet the scheduling needs of professionals who cannot always commit to a full course load. The maximum time frame for completing the M.J. or LL.M. degree is five academic years, and the minimum is one academic year. We suggest that students speak to an advisor about the appropriate course load for their individual schedules and needs.

How much does it cost to get an LL.M.?

Students in the M.J. program will pay $900 per credit hour, with a minimum of 27 credits necessary to graduate. Students in the LL.M. program will pay $1250 a credit hour. LL.M. students with a J.D. must take 24 credits to graduate, whereas students with law degrees from other countries must complete 27 credits, which includes a 3-credit course in basic American law and the U.S. legal system.

How do I apply for scholarships?

All students will be evaluated on the basis of merit and need for scholarships from the Law College. We do offer tuition scholarships on a limited basis to qualified candidates, but these do NOT cover living, travel or other expenses.
