“The clinic experience was truly amazing. I was able to interact with actual clients and practice what I had learned in school even before I received my JD.”

Nathan Reitinger chose MSU law for the clinics and the Trial Practice Institute. “I knew the value in the practical aspect of the clinics and the robust trial practice techniques taught in the TPI program,” he said. “MSU Law has the unique strength of being a stand-out school near the capital of the State. I think the school's reputation precedes it, and that is something of high value when looking for a job.”

Nathan participated in the Plea and Sentencing Clinic. “The clinic experience was truly amazing. I was able to interact with actual clients and practice what I had learned in school even before I received my JD,” he said. “Additionally, because I took the Plea and Sentencing clinic, I was able to learn about an area of criminal law that is one of the most important for our plea-based criminal system.”

Because of his experience in the Plea and Sentencing Clinic, Nathan is able to talk with employers about the substantive law he learned while working on cases and the system in general. “Every employer I talk to is impressed with my knowledge of the Michigan Sentencing Guidelines and I know that without the clinic I would not be able to shine in this regard,” he said. “The experience allowed me to understand a part of law not many young lawyers do—which gives me an edge in finding employment.”
