Robert Berliner is an intellectual property lawyer. He specializes in U.S. and international patent, trademark and copyright matters, prosecution, licensing and litigation. “My firm routinely assists with University patent programs and technology transfer and with the special needs of early stage companies. We have established a network of top-ranked associate firms in more than 20 countries,” he said. “Perhaps the most rewarding aspects of my position relate to relationships with clients and providing services they value.”

Robert believes that learning to analyze case law, to think critically, and to isolate significant issues is essential to becoming a great attorney, and that MSU College of Law provided him an excellent legal education. “It was the gateway to the rest of my life,” he said.

He advises recent law graduates to develop a book of clients. “If you have your own clients, you will be welcome in any firm,” he said. “If you have more ‘book’ than you can handle, you will be valuable to any firm. Never turn down a speaking engagement or the opportunity to write an article about the area of your legal practice.”
