Kent Sparks cannot imagine attending law school anywhere else. “From day one, I have had the best experience with wonderful professors and great classmates,” he said. “Law school is inherently tough, but MSU Law provides every resource possible to ensure we’re prepared come exam time, and in securing a job.” 

Kent described the law professors as extremely accessible. “It’s clear they love to teach and work with students. Moreover, the student body helps to create a rich learning environment because it’s a diverse group of motivated, yet friendly people,” he said. “The students here are more than happy to help each other. I missed a day of classes for a job interview, and had three sets of notes in my inbox without even having to ask. The professors go just as far out of their way to help us. One professor held an exam review and told us he would stay all night answering questions if we needed it. That type of accessibility is not unusual at MSU Law.”

Though law school is unlike anything else Kent has experienced, he said the Law College has an excellent support system to help with the learning curve. “I always went to the bi-weekly TA sessions for each class because it is a great, stress-free way to practice concepts learned in class.”

Outside of class, Kent loved attending the Triangle Bar events because he found that they broadened his perspective on legal issues. “We had a great discussion about recent Supreme Court cases, with professors talking about various aspects of the arguments,” he said. “My summer employer also liked my involvement because it showed I was a serious law student who cared about giving back to the community.”

When Kent interviewed for a summer associate position with a firm in Chicago, MSU was a center of discussion. “A couple of the partners talked about their time at MSU Law and we exchanged stories about living in East Lansing,” he said. “Having those types of commonly-shared experiences really helped to give me an edge in interviewing.”
