- TEXTBOOK AND SUPPLEMENTAL COURSE INFORMATION
The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA) requires that postsecondary institutions participating in federal student aid programs make required, recommended, and supplemental textbook and other material information available to students at the time of enrollment on the online course schedule, to the maximum extent practicable. Textbook and supplemental material information is available through the MSU Schedule of Courses by clicking on the section number of the desired course.
Reminder: The subject code for all MSU Law courses is "LAW".
ELECTRONIC BILLS AND REFUNDS
B. REFUNDS. Refunds for withdrawal from classes will be given in accordance with the schedule shown under DROP PERIOD above.
Closing of a Course:
Enrollment availability for a course is found at http://schedule.msu.edu/searchResults.asp. There are no waiting lists when a course has reached the enrollment limit. Courses will automatically reopen when enrollment falls below the enrollment limit.
Holds on Your Account:
If there is any type of hold on your account (including but not limited to: law school advisor, student receivables, financial aid, traffic/parking tickets, MSU), your enrollment requests CANNOT be processed. All holds must be settled before the end of the drop/add period in order for your enrollment requests to be processed. Any requests submitted without holds being resolved prior to the end of the drop/add period will be discarded.
PROCEDURES FOR COMPLETION OF THE UPPER LEVEL WRITING REQUIREMENT (ULWR)
As a requirement for graduation, every student must complete the Upper Level Writing Requirement. Prior to enrolling for ULWR credit in any semester, students are required to have completed 29 credits. A "U" is shown on the course schedule next to any course that can be taken to satisfy the requirement.
To receive ULWR credit an ULWR Declaration form (PDF) must be:
1. signed by the supervising professor;
2. submitted to the Registrar's Office by the fourth of week of the regular semester (second week in summer) the student intends to satisfy the ULWR.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS COURSE REQUIREMENT.
To satisfy graduation requirements students must complete at least one course that includes instruction in trial and appellate advocacy, alternative methods of dispute resolution, counseling, interviewing, negotiating, problem solving, factual investigation, organization and management of legal work, or drafting. An "S" is shown on the course schedule next to any course that can be taken to satisfy the requirement.
Enrollment in a Directed Study must be submitted to the Registrar's Office. Students must obtain the approval of the supervising professor on a Directed Study Form before an enrollment request can be processed. Directed Study Forms are located in the bin that is located outside of the Registrar's Office in room 309 or can be downloaded (PDF).
LEGAL EXTERNSHIP PROGRAMS:
Externship enrollment is coordinated through the Career Services Office. When adding an externship, you must provide the name of the court/office/department. Reminder: Externship enrollment must be submitted before the end of the drop/add period.
CREDIT/NO CREDIT OPTION:
Students who sign up for more than the maximum credits available under the Credit/No Credit Option will have the course that exceeds the maximum credits graded.
IRREGULAR AND/OR OVERLOAD SCHEDULES:
Full-time students are allowed to enroll in a maximum of 16 credit hours during a regular semester (fall or spring) and 7 credits in the summer. Part-time students can only enroll in a maximum of 12 credits during a regular semester and 7 credits in the summer. Any student with an irregular and/or overload schedule must obtain the permission of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs or Associate Dean for Student Engagement PRIOR to enrollment.
DROPS & ADDS:
During the regular semester (fall or spring) students can only add a course, provided the course has only met once. If the course has met more than once, a Drop/Add form signed by the professor must be submitted to the Registrar's Office.
Students can only add a course in the summer if it has never met. If a summer course has already met, a Drop/Add form signed by the professor must be submitted to the Registrar's Office.
A student who drops a course through Sunday, June 2, 2013, will receive a refund of tuition charged for that course.
Beginning Monday, June 3, 2013 through Sunday, June 9, 2013, a course may be dropped without a "W" appearing on the student's record, but the student will be charged full tuition for the course.
Beginning Monday, June 10, 2013, dropped courses will be charged the full rate of tuition, and a "W" will be placed on the student's record.
Special Note to Scholarship Students
Charges assessed for a course that is dropped after Sunday, June 2, 2013 is NOT covered by scholarships. The student will be required to pay the full rate of tuition for the dropped course.
