Special Admission Considerations

Transfer Students
The Law College accepts transfer applications from students who are in good standing and eligible to continue at an ABA-accredited law school. Transfer students may apply for admission only for Fall admission, and applications should be submitted at least one month prior to the commencement of the semester.
The successful completion of one year of law school usually is required for transfer, but under special circumstances, a file may be considered if less than one year of credits has been earned. The terms and conditions of acceptance shall be at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. However, under no circumstances will more than 43 credits from another institution or institutions be accepted by MSU Law.
Transfer students must submit an MSU Law application along with a personal statement and a copy of your current law school schedule. Transfer students must also have an official transcript and a Letter of Good Standing sent to MSU Law from their current law school. To apply for transfer admission, use the general application and identify yourself as a transfer student. For online applications, click here.
Grade point averages and class rank at MSU College of Law are computed based only upon those classes taken at MSU College of Law. Any credits awarded by other institutions are not included for these calculations.
International
Students
The Law College welcomes international students, who
should plan to apply early to ensure that immigration documentation
and test scores can be forwarded prior to application deadlines.
International students attending Michigan State University College
of Law will need to obtain an I-20 Immigration Form in order
to pass through customs.
All students seeking F-1 Immigration Forms should contact the Office of Admissions immediately upon acceptance by either calling 517/432-0222 or sending an e-mail to admiss@law.msu.edu. This school is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
International students whose native language is not English must submit documentation showing a TOEFL score at or above 100 for the internet-based test or 600 or above for the paper-based test. If you select the LSAC's Credential Assembly Service, it will send your TOEFL score to the Law College.
Applicants with
Disabilities
It is the policy and practice of Michigan State University
College of Law to comply with the Americans with Disabilities
Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and state and local
requirements regarding students and applicants with disabilities.
Under these laws, no qualified individual with a disability will
be denied access to or participation in services, programs and
activities of Michigan State University College of Law. Students
requesting accommodation should contact the Associate Dean for
Student Affairs.
Deferred Admission
An applicant who has been admitted to the Law College
may, under extenuating circumstances, petition to defer admission.
Applicants seeking a deferral must submit to the Office of Admissions
a written petition, a deposit of $200.00 and a signed affidavit
of non-attendance at any other law school. Decisions on deferral
will be made at the discretion of the Admissions Committee and
will be granted on a space available basis only.
