Computer Recommendations for MSU College of Law Students

Zoom specific:

Dual and single core laptops have a reduced framerate when screen sharing (around 5 frames per second). For optimum screen sharing performance on laptops we recommend a quard core processor or higher.

High DPI displays are supported in Zoom version 3.5 or higher

The bandwidth used by Zoom will be optimized for the best experience based on the participants’ network. It will automatically adjust for 3G, WiFi or Wired environments.

Recommended bandwidth for webinar attendees:

  • For 1:1 video calling: 600kbps (down) for high quality video and 1.2 Mbps (down) for HD video
  • For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps (down)
  • For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps (down)
  • For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps (down)

Supported operating systems

  • macOS X with macOS 10.9 or later

    Note: For devices running Windows 10, they must run Windows 10 Home, Pro, or Enterprise.

System requirements

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
  • Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
  • A webcam or HD webcam - built-in or USB plug-in
  • Or, a HD cam or HD camcorder with video capture card

The Zoom desktop client on Mac and Windows supports the following USB devices, allowing call function buttons on these devices to sync with Zoom. For example, if you mute or unmute using a button on your audio device, the Zoom client will show your mic is muted or unmuted

Note:

  • Supported USB audio devices on Windows is not limited to this list. Generally, the Zoom desktop client on Windows supports buttons for devices made by these manufacturers: Aver, Crestron, Jabra, Logitech, Plantronics, Polycom, Shure, Yamaha, and Yealink.

Examsoft specific (keep in mind that Examsoft removes support for the oldest version of Mac OS with each update of the Examplify software)

  • Operating System: 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows 10.
  • Alternate versions of Windows 10, such as Windows RT and Windows 10 S, are NOT supported at this time.
  • Only genuine, U.S.-English versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported.
  • ExamSoft does not support Tablet devices other than Surface Pro as detailed below
  • RAM: 4GB or higher
  • Examplify cannot be run within virtualized environments or environments that require persistent network (local or otherwise) connections during secure exams. This includes, but is not limited to, VMWare, Parallels, Citrix workspace, Virtual Disks, Streamed images, etc.
  • Screen Resolution should be at least 1024x768 or higher.
  • Administrator level account permissions

MacOS Catalina (version 10.15) is compatible with Examplify v.2.0.6 or greater. Previous versions of Examplify will not work with macOS Catalina

  • Supported Operating Systems: OS X 10.13 (High Sierra), OS X 10.14 (Mojave), and macOS Catalina (10.15). Only genuine versions of Mac Operating Systems are supported.
  • CPU: Intel processor
  • RAM: 4GB or higher
  • This software cannot be used on virtual environments or systems such as Microsoft's Virtual Machine, Parallels, VMware, VMware Fusion or any other virtual environments.
