The following individuals are an invaluable part of our mediation program and convened in East Lansing from around the country in August, 2016 to provide small group instruction in role play scenarios designed to build skills in both mediation and advocacy in mediation

HILARY BARNARD
A 3L at MSU Law, Hilary earned her civil and domestic relations mediation certificates as a clinician in the Conflict Resolution Clinic. Hilary was selected and competed in the Intraschool Negotiation Competition. Serving as Primary TA and advanced Conflict Resolution Clinician for Professor Pappas in 2016-17, Hilary is instrumental in tripling the enrollment in the civil mediation course. Holding her Bachelors of Music Education from Central Michigan University and Master of Music from MSU, Hilary works for the State of Michigan Department of Treasury Hearings Division, the Holt High School Band Department, and MSU Residential Education and Housing Services.

Devin Bone is an associate attorney at Paesano Akkashian and Apkarian, practicing in the areas of general commercial and civil litigation, securities arbitration, debtor rights, general negligence defense, and insurance defense. At MSU Law, Devin was a clinician for the Investor Advocacy Clinic, a FINRA arbitration and mediation clinic serving investors who suffered losses due to broker negligence. Executive Editor of the MSU Law Review, Devin was a member of the Negotiation team, serving as assistant coach.

CRYSTAL BULTJE (http://www.scholtenfant.com/attorneys/crystal-j-bultje/)
Focusing on municipal and family law, Crystal J. Bultje joined Scholten Fant in 2015 after graduating from MSU Law. In law school, she was an Articles Editor for the Michigan State Law Review, and she was also a member of the school’s Moot Court and Trial Advocacy Board, winning a regional and national championship at the ABA Appellate Advocacy Competitions in 2015. Crystal completed both the civil and domestic relations mediation certificates at MSU Law, and was an All-School Negotiation Competition Semi-Finalist.

ANTHONY CHESTER
Anthony Chester is an Associate Attorney at Hyde & Swigart, Of Counsel at Kazerouni Law Group, and a Co-Founder of Esqyr, a new bar review company. He specializes in consumer protection litigation in his multi-jurisdictional practice and has cases in federal courts as well as Minnesota, Michigan, and Texas state courts. Anthony serves as a board member for the Dispute Resolution Center of St. Paul, Minnesota. Anthony is one of the most awarded ADR students in MSU Law history, serving as ADR Board President, winning a regional negotiation competition, placing second at a national negotiation competition, and serving as captain of the mediation team competing in Dublin, Ireland. Anthony served as negotiation and mediation TA and helped facilitate a dramatic expansion of the mediation program at MSU Law.

JESSICA COLASANTI
Corporate legal counsel for the Colasanti Companies, commercial construction firms specializing in cement and steel superstructures, Jessica frequently negotiate contract terms with vendors and suppliers on various projects. A finalist for the intraschool negotiation competition her 1L year, Jessica competed on the negotiation and mediation teams her 2L and 3L year, serving as captain of both teams as a 3L. Jessica was a finalist at the regional ABA Negotiation Competition, and won 1st place in mediation at the INADR International Mediation Tournament. As the primary TA for both negotiation and mediation courses, Jessica was essential in the development of the mediation program.

MALLORY DONICK
An Associate Attorney at Traverse Legal, PLC in Traverse City, Michigan, Mallory practices in intellectual property, internet law, and drone law. At MSU Law, Mallory earned selection in the Intraschool Negotiation Competition and completed both Civil and Domestic Relations Mediation certificates. Both a teaching and research assistant for Professor Pappas, Mallory was fundamental in the development the Contract Negotiation course. As much as Mallory hates to admit it, Professor Pappas will tell anyone about her excellent mediation skills.

SIMONE FABIILLI
Simone has experience working in personal injury, insurance defense, debt collection, and business litigation. She has also clerked for a Michigan State Circuit Court judge. At MSU Law, Simone earned civil and domestic relations mediation certificates. Simone also competed on the Mediation Team, advancing to semi-finalist in the INADR International Mediation Competition in London, U.K. A talented mediator, advocate, and oralist, Simone also competed on the MSU Law Jessup Competition Team.

GRETA HOGAN (www.fashiondocket.com)
Greta Hogan is a 2016 graduate of MSU Law. While at MSU, Greta is in a select group of students to compete on both the Mediation and Arbitration teams. On the mediation team, Greta competed in the INADR International Mediation Tournament in London, and participated in a Mediation tournament at a Muskegon Prison. Greta also assisted Professor Pappas with a mediation training at the Michigan Supreme Court. Greta served as the president of the MSU Law Student Bar Association, and started a blog, the Fashion Docket, focusing on legal news in the fashion industry. 

JULIET IACONA
One of the most awarded competitors in MSU Law ADR competition history, Juliet Iacona competed on both negotiation and mediation competition teams. Juliet placed 1st in mediation advocacy during the 2016 INADR International Mediation Competition, and was on the 1st place 2015 ABA Regional Negotiation Competition team. As the primary TA for mediation and negotiation, Juliet was instrumental in the execution of the Contract Negotiation course and also mediated as a clinician in the Conflict Resolution Clinic. A roster-qualified civil and domestic relations mediator in the state of Michigan, Juliet is now an associate at Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, and Weiss, P.C. in Southfield, Michigan.

ALLISON KITTELBERGER
In-house counsel for Friedman Integrated Real Estate Solutions in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Allison focuses on leasing, contract drafting and negotiation, corporate lease transactions, and real estate transactions work. At MSU Law, Allison competed on the mediation competition team winning the Great Lakes Mediation Tournament and competing at the INADR International Mediation Tournament in Dublin, Ireland. Allison also played field hockey for Michigan State.

COURTNEY LYMAN
Courntney works as a Law Guardian in the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender Law Guardian’s Office. In this role, Courtney represents children navigating the foster care system and regularly participates in mediations about terminating parental rights. At MSU Law, Courtney earned civil and domestic relations mediation certificates and competed in both Ann Arbor (winning the Great Lakes Tournament) and at the INADR International Mediation Tournament in Dublin, Ireland.

Practicing in the areas of civil and criminal insurance defense, Dennis is an associate at Secrest Wardle in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At MSU Law, Dennis competed at on both Mediation and Negotiation Competition teams and earned both Civil and Domestic Relations mediation certificates. One of the most skilled negotiators to compete for MSU Law, Dennis and Brian Pike formed a formidable competition team. Additionally, Dennis won 1st place in mediation at the INADR International Mediation Competition.

CHRISTINA MAYFIELD (www.christinamayfield.com/)
Christina is a West Michigan family law mediator and family law lawyer. A cum laude 2011 graduate of MSU Law, prior to returning to Michigan she practiced insurance defense, international probate litigation, and family law in Texas.

SARAH PETERS
Currently a Project and Program Management Consultant for NTT Data, a consulting firm in Dallas, Texas, Sarah asses risk and focuses on Anti-Money Laundering issues, as well as Know Your Client procedures for a top 40 bank. During her time in law school, Sarah’s awesome mediation skills won her multiple awards including “Best Mediator” and 1st place mediation team at the INADR international competition. Sarah was among the first at MSU Law to be a clinician and then advanced clinician in the Conflict Resolution Clinic. Earning her Civil and Domestic Relations certificates at MSU Law, Sarah is now working to earn certification in Texas.

BRIAN PIKE (www.briancpike.com)
A Knowledge Automation Architect and Lawyer at Riverview Law / Kim Technologies, Brian currently lives in New Jersey. At MSU Law, Brian focused on entrepreneurship and law and earned both his civil and domestic relations mediation certificates. A highly skilled negotiator and mediator, Brian and Dennis Malecki formed a formidable negotiation team while at MSU Law. Brian also won 1st place in Mediation at the INADR International Mediation Tournament.

LAUREN PREW (www.hollandhart.com/laprew)
As a corporate attorney at Holland & Hart LLP in Boise, Idaho, Lauren Prew negotiates contracts and other corporate documents with clients, including asset purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, shareholders’ rights agreements, and other transactional agreements. Lauren is also involved in the health care practice and counsels physicians and other practitioners in their regulatory and transactional needs. Possibly the most awarded ADR competitor in MSU Law competition history, Lauren served as the primary teaching assistant for both negotiation and mediation. Lauren won the regional ABA negotiation competition, and placed 2nd in the national ABA negotiation competition. She also captained the team that won 1st place in mediation at the INADR International Mediation Competition. Lauren completed her mediation certification in the state of Michigan during her third year of law school.

KYLE SANDEFUR
Kyle Sandefur serves as in-house counsel for Ford Motor Company's Office of the General Counsel.  As a member of the Litigation and Regulatory group, Kyle manages Ford's product litigation and negotiates on behalf of the Company at civil mediations across the nation.  Kyle was an active member of Michigan State College of Law's Alternative Dispute Resolution program, including the MSU Law Negotiation Competition Team.

KATELYN SCHAFFER
Katelyn Schaffer is a 3L at MSU who earned both civil and domestic relations mediation certificates. A member of the mediation team, Katelyn represented the team in the semi-final mediation round during the INADR International Mediation Tournament in London. Katelyn also served as a clinician in the MSU Conflict Resolution Clinic, completed her ULWR on domestic violence and mediation, and volunteered as a domestic relations mediator at the community mediation center in Holland, Michigan. Now working in family in law at Banks Rifkin in Birmingham, Michigan, Katelyn previously worked as an investigator at the Friend of the Court in Ottawa County. Katelyn balances school and work with serving as a board member for the Michigan Association of Court Mediators. Serving as an advanced Conflict Resolution Clinician for Professor Pappas in 2016, Katelyn is instrumental in tripling the enrollment in the civil mediation course.

MORGAN SCHUT
Earning her civil and domestic relations certificates at MSU Law, Morgan served as a clinician in the Conflict Resolution Clinic. Morgan also participated in the Trial Practice Institute. Now an associate at Lewis, Reed, & Allen in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Morgan intends to mediate at the local community mediation center and to assist in pro per domestic relations mediations.

JUSTIN WILLIAMS
Justin Williams currently serves as Assistant Director of Admissions at Michigan State University College of Law. During his time as a student, he competed on the 2014 INADR mediation team, a team that won an international mediation tournament. He also competed on the 2014 Great Lakes Mediation Tournament mediation team, advancing to the semi-finals. Justin’s style is marked by his uncanny ability to make all parties feel welcome at the table, and skill in providing much needed perspective on the toughest issues in a mediation.
