East Lansing, Michigan. - March 14, 2002. Vygaudas Usackas, Lithuanian ambassador to the United States, will visit Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law on Monday, March 18. During his visit, Usackas will conduct a European Union class at the law college and will meet with law faculty as well as faculty members from MSU International Programs and James Madison College.

Usackas holds a law degree and has an extensive political science background. Before assuming his current position in March 2001, he held several positions with Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as NATO liaison, and was chief negotiator for the republic's entry into the European Union. He has published and lectured widely on European Union and NATO matters.

Usackas will be available to the press from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 7-7:30 p.m. in Room 346 of the Law College Building at Shaw Lane and Bogue Street. He will speak to the European Union class at 7:45 p.m. in Room 474.
