MSU Law Surpasses Michigan Bar Exam Statewide Pass Rates

East Lansing, MI — Michigan State University College of Law graduates once again surpassed two key Michigan bar examination pass rates, according to recently-released data from the February 2010 administration.

Pre-appeal results show that 94 percent of MSU Law first-time testers passed the exam, placing the school second among Michigan law schools and well above the corresponding statewide rate of 86 percent. MSU Law was also one of only two in-state law schools to top the overall statewide pass rate, which includes repeat testers.

"Our high pass rates reflect the strength of our curriculum, the commitment of our faculty, and the hard work of our students," said Joan Howarth, dean of MSU College of Law. "We are very pleased with our graduates' success on the Michigan bar exam, and are proud that they will carry forth our school's commitment to excellence as they contribute to the legal profession in our state and beyond."

MSU Law graduates who passed the exam will be licensed to practice law in the state as soon as they are sworn in and pay their State Bar of Michigan membership dues. The Honorable Thomas Eveland, chief judge of the 56th Circuit Court in Charlotte, will preside over a swearing-in ceremony at the Law College on Wednesday, May 19, at 6 p.m.
