The online Global Food Law Program is designed to provide you with a flexible education that meets the demands of both life and career. Online learning provides flexibility and also requires planning and preparation.

As you identify and plan your curriculum keep the following in mind:

  • Each credit hour requires about 3-4 hours of time per week. Being enrolled in a 3 credit course requires between 9 and 12 hours of your time per week. Students new to the study of law and online learning may find they require a bit more time for their first course.
  • Read through the course descriptions often to identify the courses you are interested in taking.
  • Work with your advisor to develop a curriculum plan that meets both your needs and the degree requirements.
  • Revisit this plan. Students often find that their interests change as they move through the courses or as new issues arise at work. The curriculum is designed to be flexible to accommodate these changes.
  • While courses are not sequential, it is recommended that M.J. students take Foundations of Law and Legal Research (LAW 807A) in their first semester.
  • It is also recommended that students take International Food Laws and Regulations (LAW 810D) and Food Regulation in the United States (LAW 810A) early in the program to familiarize yourself with the legal and regulatory aspects of food law.
  • Your formal coursework is just one piece of the experience. You also have the opportunity to learn from your fellow students and faculty both inside and outside of the courses.
