Assess your strengths and interests to determine how you can develop skills and connections to start on the career path of your dreams!

• Conduct some self-reflection to identify what you offer to employers. Complete the CSO's Plan to Succeed Worksheet (PDF).
• Build and continuously update your CASE profile with your contact information, geographic preferences and practice area preferences. Upload current application materials and report any legal-related jobs and job offers.
• Monitor job postings and plan ahead for your summer experiences.
• Meet with the CSO for one-on-one advising at least once per year.

You never know who may be able to influence your future: target your networking, but connections can be made in any setting.

• Prepare to make meaningful connections with the Networking Guide (PDF) and the Informational Interview Guide (PDF).
• Reach out to alumni for informational interviews and “shadowing” opportunities, attend events at MSU Law, and get to know faculty and fellow students.
• Utilize LinkedIn and other social media websites to connect and keep in touch with your network.

• Continuously improve your social media presence, striving to promote your brand by following the CSO's Social Media Guide (PDF), and specific guides for LinkedIn (PDF), Twitter (PDF), and Facebook (PDF).
• Follow @MSULawCSO on social media for updates on CSO events, resources, and announcements.

Your resume is a screening tool for employers that showcases your writing skills, experiences, and attention to detail.

• Use the CSO's Resume Guide (PDF) to regularly update your resume throughout law school to demonstrate knowledge and competencies.
• Upload your perfected legal resume to CASE.
• Schedule an appointment to have your resume reviewed.

Tailor all required application materials to each employer to describe your unique passions and strengths that match their needs.

• Follow the Cover Letter Guide (PDF) to draft a tailored cover letter for each application.
• Follow the Writing Sample Guide (PDF) and References Guide (PDF).
• Schedule an appointment with an adviser to have your materials reviewed.

Improve your interviewing skills through strategic preparation, thorough research, and structured practice.

• Review the CSO’s Interview Guide (PDF) along with the list of Sample Interview Questions (PDF).
• Use the resources within the CASE Resource Library to research an employer prior to the interview.
• Schedule to conduct mock interviews with the CSO through CASE.
