2026 tuition and fees are as follows:
Total Tuition is $3,975 for five credits. Tuition includes health insurance; an emergency assistance card for immediate telephone access to the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety; emergency medical evacuations; administrative support from the MSU Office of Study Abroad; and routine scanning of U.S. State Department travel warnings.
The only program fee other than the refundable $100 application deposit is the Student Activity Fee of $950 per student.
Program Housing is at the Ninja Black Hotel. The Ninja Black Hotel is an amazing location near the Imperial Palace and within walking distance to both Doshisha Law School and the Karasuma subway line. It is close to major shopping areas, Doshisha University, the Imperial Palace, and the Manga Museum among many other places.
Fees include high speed WiFi and all utilities. The total fees (based on the exchange rate on 11/7/23) are: Double room per person: $850.00 total for 30 nights, Single room approximately $1541 total for 30 nights. Rates include all utilities, high speed WIFI, and hotel cafe access.
Other Housing Opportunities
Kyoto is an affordable city and other housing options are available to those who make housing arrangements well in advance of arriving. Links to several affordable and convenient western-style accommodations are posted below.
The public transit system in Kyoto is excellent, and the Imadegawa campus of Doshisha University is located right next to a stop on the Karasuma line of Kyoto's clean and efficient subway system. The other subway line, called the Tozai line, intersects with Karasuma line at Karasuma-Oike, only a few stops from the campus.
Two important factors as you consider housing are that any housing you select should ideally be near campus on a direct bus line, or near one of the subway lines (the Karasuma or Tozai lines) and should have air conditioning. Kyoto can be quite hot in the Summer and air conditioning is a must for those who are accustomed to it. The good news is that virtually all hotels and many apartments have air conditioning. Just be sure to verify this. The following are links to potential housing for those who do not wish to use program housing. The Doshisha campus is at the intersection of Imadegawa St. and Karasuma St. and there is an exit across from the law school at the Imadegawa stop on the Karasuma subway line (the Karasuma and Tozai subway lines intersect two stops south). A number of buses also stop right by the campus.
There are numerous restaurants in Kyoto from the inexpensive to the expensive. All sorts of cuisine are available from western to Thai (and, of course, Kyoto has the best Japanese food in the world). Also, students will have access to the Doshisha University cafeterias (which offer good food at extremely low cost) and the Doshisha gym facilities.
