MSU Law's Reciprocity Policy

For MSU Law Students/Graduates

The Career Services Office will make a request on behalf of an MSU law student or graduate for reciprocal services with another ABA-accredited law school.

If you are interested in requesting reciprocal services with another ABA-accredited law school, please contact Carl Fanning. Include your name, current contact information, class year/graduation year, and the school's name where you would like a request for reciprocity to be made on your behalf.

Please be advised that some law schools do not provide students/graduates granted reciprocity with electronic access to their job postings or may charge such students/graduates a subscription fee.

Law schools in certain geographical areas such as New York, Southern California, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, and Washington, D.C., restrict the number of schools to which a student/graduate may have access through reciprocity. Therefore, when making your request to the Career Services Office, you may wish to list more than one school and if you do so, please prioritize the list.

For Students/Graduates of Other Law Schools

The following policy applies to students and alumni of ABA-accredited law schools requesting assistance from MSU Law Career Services

1. Assistance will be given to students and alumni of ABA-accredited law schools that allow MSU Law students and alumni to use their career services, resources and facilities.
2. Requests for reciprocity must be made in writing by the director or designated staff member of the career services office at the requesting school, must include the address of the mentioned student or alumnus, and must be received at least one week before the first visit.
3. MSU Law Career Services will send a letter granting reciprocity to the requesting school, with a copy to the student or alumnus. This letter must be presented at the time of the first visit.
4. Reciprocity is granted for a period of three months, beginning on the date of the letter granting reciprocity. Reciprocity is closed from Aug. 1–Nov. 15 due to fall on-campus interviews.
5. Services available under reciprocity agreements:
   • One counseling appointment.
   • Access to online job postings maintained by MSU Law. When responding to notices obtained from MSU Law, applicants must state in writing to employers that they obtained the posting through a reciprocal agreement between their school and Michigan State University College of Law.
6. Services not available:
   • Reading of job notices over the phone
   • Resume referral
   • Fall or spring on-campus interviews
