Title IX/Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct and Anti-Discrimination Policies & Procedures

Michigan State University prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of age, color, disability status, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, height, marital status, national origin, political affiliation, pregnancy or related conditions, political affiliation, race, religion, sex, sex characteristics, sex/gender stereotypes, sexual orientation/identity, military or veteran status and weight, or any other status protected by applicable law, in any of its programs or activities. Individuals may report concerns or questions to MSU’s Title IX Coordinator and Office for Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance. Mary Ann Ferguson, Assistant Dean for Diversity and Equity Services, (DESO), ensures MSU Law’s compliance with the law in this area as well as providing additional resources, information, and assistance.

All complaints filed by MSU Law students and employees regarding MSU's Title IX, ADP, and RSVM policies are investigated by the MSU Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).

STEP ONE: A reporter initiates a complaint.

Complaints may be filed directly with MSU’s Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) or through MSU Law’s Assistant Dean for Diversity and Equity Services. Anyone is welcome to file a report with MSU's OIE, including students, faculty, staff, and guests.

STEP TWO: MSU’S Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) reviews the complaint.

After reviewing the complaint, MSU's OIE may decide that an investigation is warranted. When an MSU OIE complaint is in the investigation phase, the Law College will ensure that all parties involved in the complaint are aware of support resources.

STEP THREE: The Office of Institutional Equity directs the outcome of its review to MSU Law.

If an OIE complaint investigation determines that a violation has occurred, these results are sent to the MSU Law Diversity and Equity Services Office. At that stage, MSU Law will facilitate interim measures or appropriate sanctions in accordance with the MSU Law Code of Student Discipline and/or Law Student Rights and Responsibilities.
