The Detroit News reported that the Michigan Court of Appeals “affirmed the dismissal of two Detroit men’s murder convictions because of missing evidence that the Wayne County Circuit Court ruled violated their due process rights.” The ruling last week “marks a victory for an MSU law school clinic started in 2024 dedicated to pre-conviction appeals that represented one of the men as one of its first cases.” An MSU law student “told the judges the dismissal of the men’s cases was an appropriate decision given their defense attorneys had requested evidence from prosecutors for months before the new trial’s scheduled start.” Brad Hall, founder of MSU’s clinic, “previously told The News that specialized legal work...is well-suited for a law school clinic because they offer the opportunity for deep research and development of arguments for the appellate court.”
