CBS News reports that MSU College of Law Housing Justice Clinic Director Donovan McCarty weighed in on Detroit’s crackdown on 27 apartment buildings with chronic code violations. McCarty questioned whether the initiative goes far enough, saying, “My reaction when I heard about the initiative, it just felt like a little bit too little and too late.” The city says it is relying more heavily on legal action against chronic offenders, including nuisance lawsuits. McCarty said tenants should not take officials’ word that conditions will improve, adding, “I think that they have to wait until they’re shown that it’s a different situation.”
