MSU constitutional law professor Brian Kalt provided analysis for an AP report on President Trump’s contradictory signals about seeking a third presidential term. As Trump alternates between teasing a 2028 campaign and describing life after leaving office, Kalt said the approach is strategic. “It allows him to point to his own words to support any number of mutually exclusive things,” Kalt said. He added that “people do tend to find, in Trump’s words, whatever it is that they want to hear.” Kalt, who wrote about presidential term limits in “Constitutional Cliffhangers: A Legal Guide for Presidents and Their Enemies,” was quoted alongside analysis from a former Clinton adviser as Trump approaches the midpoint of his second term.
