Workstation Configuration Standard

The purpose of this document is to outline the standard workstation configuration, including hardware and software included with each setup.

MSU College of Law provides all faculty and staff with primary workstations to perform their daily job duties. The standard workstation is a Windows (PC). Apple (Mac) devices are considered exceptions and require approval by the Director of IT and Chief of Staff.

Using the Effortless PC menu, the standard laptop or desktop will be purchased, along with peripherals listed below.

Desktop Configuration

  • Desktop
  • 2 x 24" monitors
  • Standard keyboard
  • Standard mouse
  • Access to print

Laptop Configuration

  • Laptop
  • 2 x 24" monitors
  • Docking station
  • Standard keyboard
  • Standard mouse
  • Access to print

Mac Configuration

  • Apple iMac or MacBook Pro
  • 1 monitor
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse or trackpad
  • Access to print

Software

  • Office 365 (Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Access, OneNote)
  • Microsoft Teams

Custom hardware will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will need Law Chief of Staff and Director of IT approval.

NOTE: Only exception for monitors will be having one large monitor instead of two smaller monitors. For example, having only one 27" monitor. If the user is on a laptop, this allows one large external monitor and use of the laptop screen.

Specialized software will be reviewed and purchased as needed.
